What is Improv?

In the simplest possible terms, improvisation (improv for short) is a specialized form of acting in which no script is used. The actors make up all of their own dialog as they go along. In essence, the “script” is being written, directed and performed simultaneously. The improvising actor takes over the job of playwright. The actor also assumes the director’s functions in staging the scene. Comedy and improvisation naturally go well together.

Is the show appropriate for everyone?

Although we try to keep it clean, our show may not be for everyone. Our show sometimes contains adult themes and language. As long as you keep an open mind, are not easily offended, and have a desire to just laugh, let loose, and have a good time, then our show is for you.

Do you ever do family rated shows?

YES! We also do PG rated shows! See our schedule for family shows.

Can I buy tickets at the door or ahead of time?

YES to both! Depending on the venue we are performing at, tickets can be purchased in advance as well as at the door. Some venues are very small and we recommend purchasing in advance or making a reservation.

Can I make a reservation for a show? How?

YES! Reservations will be held up until 20 min. prior to showtime. After that they will be given away.  To make a reservation, go to the Contact Us page, click the make a reservation link, and send us an email. It's that easy!

Do you teach improv?

Twisted Gray Matter does not teach improv, however our main improv group San Ramon Improv U does! They offer both basic and intermediate/advanced improv classes. Check out the website for more information.

Do you ever hold auditions for the troupe?

YES! Each year we will hold auditions for troupe members (usually in August or September).  Watch for audition dates and come on down to audition! For more information, click the link at the bottom of this page.
